Shrimps is a very famous and tasty food in all countries. Most people are like to eat shrimps due to its taste. On the other hand, there is a high nutritional value in it. But this food is not matching for everyday meals due to it is very dry and hot thing. So you can add shrimps with your lunch once a week. Some people cannot eat this due to allergic. However, you have to know to clean the shrimps before cooking. It is a little bit difficult task.

How to Choose High-Quality Shrimp

  • It is important to find fresh and high-quality shrimp that isn’t infected, damaged or contaminated.
  • The shells should be translucent and pinkish-tan, greyish green, or light pink in colour. Black spots on the shells or Blackened edges or may shows a quality loss.
  • Additionally, raw and cooked shrimp should have a mild, “ocean-like” or salty smell. Shrimp with an overwhelming “fishy” or ammonia-like odour is likely spoiled and unsafe to consume.
  • Also, make sure your cooked shrimp is firm in texture and white with a slightly pink or red tint.
  • Furthermore, it is important to buy shrimp from a reputable supplier who can answer your questions about handling practices.

Steps to cleaning the shrimps

  1. Firstly, start with fresh or thawed frozen shrimp in their shells.
  2. Then take each shrimp and hold by the tail and pull off the legs. Then remove and unwrap the thin shell leaving the tail intact. Some are like to keep the tails on for appearance, but you can take them off if you want.
  3. Take a small paring knife and cut a shallow incision along the top of the shrimp all the way down to the tail.
  4. Then lift out the vein in the shrimp using the tip of the knife.
  5. After that remove the veins and shells.
  6. Then rinse the shrimp using clean water, if needed you can rest them on a paper towel until dry.
  7. Now, make sure the shrimp are completely dry before cooking.
  8. You can cook without removing the vein. Shrimp is completely edible without removing the vein. Cooking them as that way shows a beautiful look.

  1. Firstly preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Then lay them in a baking sheet. Then Drizzle the tops with salt, pepper and olive oil.
  3. After that roast them in the oven for about 5 minutes.
  4. Remove the shrimp from the oven when they became the shape of a ‘C’ and turn the colour into bright pink. If some shrimp closes to an ‘O’ they are definitely overcooked. (It means C’s are good and O’s are bad and too late)
